Madeline is 1 Today

Maddie & Mommy 6:00am (just woke up!)

Good Morning to Everyone! Well, it's finally here. Maddie turned 1 this morning at 2:16am. Wow, how fast a year has flown by. I have to admit that last night I was SUPER emotional about today. I remember being in the hospital like it was yesterday and I'm sure I'll say that every time she has a birthday, even when she's turning 30 :) I was crying last night because I was feeling like she's no longer a baby-sort of like grieving her babyhood. I called my mom and she reminded me that even though Maddie is 1 now, she still needs me for a lot and has a lot of growing up to do. But, it's that whole blink of an eye thing that keeps getting me. We are only here for such a short time in the grand scheme of things. It's hard to see it fly by so quickly because it reminds me that as she gets older, I too am getting older. I mean, I have wanted to be a mom ALL my life, and the fact that I'm living that right now is wonderful, amazing, hard at times, etc. I guess I'm feeling like her and I were made for each other and what happens when she's grown up? I know, I know, you're thinking, "Sarah, she's only 1; get a grip." Well, here she is. This little person I had a part in creating. It's pretty amazing to have her in our lives and it's also hard to remember a life without her. I really believe that she is the best thing that's ever happened to me; without a doubt. She fills my days, makes me laugh, brightens my world, reduces me to tears and pushes my buttons.
For those of you that love her, thank you. Thank you for caring about her-I couldn't ask for anything more.
Happy 1st Birthday, Madeline Elisabeth...It's going to be a great year.

Happy Birthday Maddie,
Your Grammie Sandy is soooo Happy to have you here and thinks this year has flown by in the wink of an eye. And thank you Sarah and Gabe for giving Carlos and I such a perfect first grandchild. I think she is the greatest delight of our life (don't tell Lois). Talk to ya later and love ya

I know how you feel, but all you can do is enjoy the journey. The beautiful part about having children is to watch them grow and become special people. Although it's tough at times to look back and miss them being babies, the real excitement is in their future. Tell my niece happy birthday, and give her a big kiss and hug from Uncle Dan (or Daniel since Mom's reading this blog). I love you, and listen to the voicemail I left you earlier.

Happy Birthday to my namesake. I remember a year ago today very well and wishing so bad I could be there. But I did get to see her just a couple weeks later, thanks to Aunt Susie. And she was, and still is perfect. Enjoy the ride both to Sarah and thanks to both you and Gabe for bringing her into our lives.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! Maddie is very popular today :) Dan, your words were perfect and I gave her the hug. Come to Sebastopol!!! I'll email you about that. Thank you Laura, Sandy and Siobhan for thinking of Maddie today. Lizzy, you are so funny. I cried the WHOLE time I blogged that, so I'm glad that it moved you too. I will try to video when she has her cupcake later and put it on the blog tonight. I had her portrait done today and I have some really great pictures to give to you all. Love, Sarah

Happy Birthday to our precious granddaughter and thank you to Sarah and Gabe for bringing her into our lives. I absolutely understand how you feel about how fast time goes by - imagine how I feel when I think about how old you are! It truly seems like yesterday that you were Maddie's age. There are many things I would do differently if I were starting over and raising you three! The biggest change I would make would be to stop long enough to enjoy the day to day happenings of raising kids - you know "stop and smell the roses" and try to remember all the wonderful, silly, crazy things kids do! It seems to me that you are doing a great job of enjoying Maddie and capturing her life so you are already way ahead of what I did!! I can't wait to see you all next week. It brings me more joy than I can express to think about you, Gabe and Maddie being here at home with us. What a celebration we shall have! I love you all - MOM
